You can set up your computer to share files and folders with other users on your network. You can set up your computer to share your entire computer with everyone, or restrict the sharing service to allow specific users access to only certain folders. You can share files using Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), or the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol.
With file sharing turned on and permissions set, users on your network can browse for your computer on the network or type your computer’s address into a “Connect to Server†window and connect to your computer and share files.
To set up file sharing:
Step 1
Choose Apple > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
Step 2
Select the File Sharing check box.
Users you have set up with accounts in Accounts preferences can access your computer by connecting to it over the network.
Step 3
To refine user access to your computer and set up specific folders or volumes to share, click Add (+) at the bottom of the Folders list and select the folder you want to share.
Step 4
To further refine user access, click Add (+) at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Accounts preferences), Network Users or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Select the user from the list and click Select.
After the user is in the list, use the triangles next to the user name to assign privileges for that use user (No Access, Read & Write, Read Only, or Write Only (Drop Box)).
Step 5
Click Options and select the way you want to share your computer: using AFP, FTP, or SMB.
If Windows users will connect to your computer to share files, make sure SMB is selected, select the On checkbox next to the name of the account that will share your computer, and enter the password for that user.
can you give instructions specific for the radio?
These are nice generic instructions about how to turn on file sharing, but what *specifically* do I need to do to get my radio to see my shared files?
Do I need to turn on AFP, FTP, SMB or what? Do I need to create a new user?
Is there some software I can run on my Mac that would help? WiMP?
Thanks,
John
I connected the IR-1000 to my Mac iTunes folder
It requires SMB file sharing if you use the "windows shares" option in the radio menu. In OS 10.5, you set this up in the sharing prefs. You need also to add your iTunes folder in the list of shared folders. You can keep it password protected with your username and password, and the radio menu will ask for these when you connect. For the radio to see the share, you will have to power-cycle the radio to re-initialize its network connection.
UPnP may be a better way to go, but SMB sharing is straightforward and built into OS-X. It does not require a third party client.

John, On my intel iMac I use
John,
On my intel iMac I use Eye Connect software that comes with the Eye TV hardware. The download is free and it's a 30 day demo. BUT, here's the good thing, the Audio portion does NOT expire and that's what you'll be using.--)))) I use it all the time.
Install is simple like all other apps on our Mac's!
DL at:
http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/software/EyeConnect.en...
Once installed and started I go to my Grace and select Media Player from the Menu, the I select UPNP and poof IM connected to my MAC!
Give it a go and if ya have a problem just let me know and I will try and assist. For me it worked great the first time I ever installed it.
Let me know either way how it went!

UPNP: I'm not connected :(
Brian,
I found this thread since I'm trying to get my Grace radio to see my newly-installed EyeConnect UPnP server. When I select Menu | UPNP Servers, all I see is [Empty] / No PCs Found. What should I do from here?

bwarn, Just saw your post
bwarn,
Just saw your post here from the 26th. Did you get it working? If not if you have an email addy that you care to share I will send you some screen shots from my MAC on how I set it up. It's really pretty simple.
I'll try an explain it the best I can:
From System Preferences I click on Eye Connect Icon at the bottom of my preference pane. Then I highlight the "Start/Stop tab". Below that is an area that displays a check box that I checked off to enable my Radio to talk with my MAC. To the right of the check box under the name area here is the name which mine by default says Reciva Radio.
Below the above area is another selection and I have selected "Enable New Devices".
Next: I highlight the "CONTENT TAB" to the right of the Start/Stop Tab. I check off the box thats called "Share My Content". Then I use the + button on the lower left hand corner to add the folder(s) that I want access to.
That's it. All you have to remember after you set this up is to start/stop Eye Connect when you wish to use it. You can of course leave it on all the time. For me I turn it on or off when I intend to use it. I like to conserve memory and don't like running programs when IM currently not using them.
Let me know how it goes and if ya need a few screen shots let me know along with an address I can send them to.
PS I only use this with a MAC and can not vouch for making this work on a PC.

I Connect
Your suggestion worked really well. Thanks.
Is there a way to let a playlist just play rather than having to enter each song into a queue manually?
